The BMW 3 Series E46 was a D-segment mid-size car produced by the German automaker BMW from March 1998 to February 2007. It was the fourth generation of the successful 3 Series. It was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1998, as the successor to the BMW E36, while its production lasted until February 2005 for the Sedan and Touring versions, until 2006 for the Coupé version, and until 2007 for the Cabrio version.
2001 also saw the return of the entry-level Compact version and remained in production until 2004.
In all its versions, the E46 was a huge commercial success in all the markets it was launched in, including Greece, continuing the success of its predecessor, the 3 Series E36. The peak for the E46 came in 2002, when it sold 561,249 units internationally. A total of 3,266,885 copies of the E46 series were built, a figure significantly higher even than that of the predecessor E36, which had reached 2,236,179 copies. Finally, the BMW E46 was replaced in December 2004 by the BMW E90.
